Chris Liu, Partner, and Robin Stevens, Head of Capital Markets at MHA, the UK member firm of the global Baker Tilly network, recently hosted a delegation of senior Chinese tax officials for a briefing on the UK capital markets and tax updates.

The delegation included officials from the State Taxation Administration of China, including representatives from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region tax service, the provincial tax services of Heilongjiang, Sichuan and Qinghai, and the Taxation Bureaus of Chengdu, Guangyuan, Xining and Ningbo.

The briefing covered a range of topics, including the different UK markets available to Chinese companies, the process of listing on a UK exchange, and the accounting and tax implications of doing so.

Chris Liu also provided an overview of the UK's transfer pricing regime, recent developments in the UK tax code, and Robin discussed the latest developments in the UK's capital markets.

The briefing was well-received by the Chinese delegation, who were keen to learn more about the UK's tax and regulatory environment. The event was also an opportunity for MHA to get the most up-to-date assessment of the Chinese fiscal landscape and a view into 2025.

In his opening remarks, Chris Liu said:

We are delighted to have this opportunity to share our insights on the UK capital markets and tax regime with such a distinguished delegation of Chinese tax officials. We hope that this briefing will help to further promote understanding and cooperation.

Robin Stevens added:

The UK is a very attractive destination for Chinese companies looking to list on a public exchange. We have a deep and liquid capital market, a stable regulatory environment, and a strong track record of supporting Chinese companies.

The briefing concluded with a Q&A session, during which the Chinese delegation had the opportunity to ask Chris and Robin questions about the topics covered in the briefing.

The event was just one example of MHA's commitment to supporting Chinese companies looking to do business in the UK.
