Leading UK accounting and advisory firm MHA has further enhanced its expertise with the appointment of a new partner to its national technical and compliance team to lead on regulatory, risk and policy matters.

Working from the firm’s Manchester and London offices, Chris Greenhalgh has taken on the roles of Practice Assurance Compliance Principal and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).

Chris joins MHA after more than 10 years with the ICAEW’s Quality Assurance Department, working in regulatory monitoring in the areas of audit, practice assurance and designated professional body.

Alex Kelly, partner at MHA and a member of the firm’s Audit Quality Board, said:

Chris brings an enormous amount of experience to MHA following senior audit roles within accounting firms and his wide-ranging quality assurance role with the ICAEW."
Bringing in someone with Chris’s expertise demonstrates our commitment to upholding the highest professional standards, giving our clients, intermediaries and other stakeholders confidence in our approach to regulatory compliance and corporate governance."

Chris, whose roles in private practice included eight years with a large regional based practice, said:

MHA is a growing and ambitious organisation. Delivering a quality service to its clients is a core value that’s evident in its approach to investing in people and standards."
Given my own background in regulatory quality monitoring, there was very clear alignment of my personal objectives with those of the firm. It’s great to be part of our national technical team that’s entrusted with ensuring we uphold those standards."

While at the ICAEW, Chris was responsible for managing the organisation’s legal services monitoring and for overseeing its delegation agreement for anti-money laundering oversight with the Isle of Man.

He has been involved in a number of other outsourced contracts, including monitoring for another UK based professional body, overseas monitoring in Abu Dhabi, and third-party monitoring for Chartered Accountants Ireland.
