The London Stock Exchange has announced that it had its most active year for initial public offerings (IPOs) for 14 years, with companies raising nearly £17bn in 2021. Over 120 companies joined the market which is the most for five years and the highest of any exchange outside the US and Greater China. Of the proceeds raised, around 40% went into the technology sector. Online money transfer company Wise, cyber security company Darktrace and customer reviews platform Trustpilot were three of the major listings in the sector. Wise was the largest debut by market cap with the company being valued at £9bn when it listed in July. Some 20% of the £17bn raised was for investment trusts. More broadly, the amount of funds raised globally through IPOs increased by over 80% to £305bn, which is the highest level ever recorded.
