Meet Hasan Hashmi

Hasan shares his story as a senior figure within the tax team as to why he would recommend us to other professionals looking to utilise their experience and skills to make a lasting mark within the sector.

He begins: “Having previously worked at a number of large firms before joining MHA, I really felt that I was at a stage in my career where I wanted to move to a firm where I could make a greater impact utilising my skills and knowledge."

“I really liked the prospect of moving to MHA and being able to really shape the direction of travel, which moving to a mid-tier firm would give me, and based on what I’d heard about their fantastic culture, I could really come on board with my experience and help to shape my destiny and make a real difference.

“We have a really great culture that welcomes innovation and ideas from our people and I don’t think that you necessarily get this elsewhere. For senior people, we all get to a stage where we have acquired so much knowledge and experience that we then want to be able to apply this.”

So are there any other aspects of our culture that you feel is really appealing and helps us stand out?

“I think we’re in a really unique position of being a mid-tier firm that is certainly growing and going places, whilst still managing to retain a somewhat family feeling culture that we have become known for."

“For example I remember when I first joined and something that I found very welcoming was that if I asked a colleague for some help or support, they would answer my question but then ask me if I needed anything else as well. Straight away the firm felt really personable and warm and I settled in very quickly.

“Sometimes you can get a little lost in bigger firms, if you get stuck on something, or have a question to ask, there will be someone on the end of a line who can certainly help you, but you don’t necessarily get to build those relationships and connections that we do here.”

Our culture is definitely a big plus point and a reason why for many we are the firm of choice for people at all levels in the financial sector, Hasan continues on other areas where we stand out:

“One thing I really noticed very early on is the wide variety of work that is available to our people. We look after such a mix of clients who all have different needs that there is so much potential to get involved with different elements of work, and you are supported to really shape your own destiny.

“For those who are well into their careers, having this level of autonomy is a real plus point as you want to feel that you have the confidence to make some bold suggestions. And for those who are perhaps just at the earlier stages, this exposure really helps them to develop.”

We then ask Hasan if he feels that there are any misconceptions that people have around working in tax that he is able to dispel?

“You do sometimes hear people say that they think that working in tax could be boring, but this is absolutely not the case, in fact I’d say that every day is a school day.

“The role is so varied and each of our clients have their own unique needs so each day is different.”

Hasan continues on this point by explaining what he feels make our tax team different from others:

“We are very client focussed, and we always go above and beyond to support them. Now this may sound odd because all firms will no doubt support their clients. However, I don’t feel that they all are as personable as we are.

“Our clients have a face and a name, not just an email contact. We build up relationships with our clients, who then choose to work with us for years to come. That personal touch we offer is really appreciated.”

Outside of work Hasan is a keen runner and hiker and will be a part of the firm’s Three Peaks Challenge.

We look after such a mix of clients who all have different needs that there is so much potential to get involved with different elements of work, and you are supported to really shape your own destiny.
