Meet Kai, a finalist in the East Midlands Chamber Awards!

We sat down with Kai Taylor, who is in the running for Apprentice of the Year at the East Midlands Chamber awards later this year, to know more about him.

“I began working with MHA in September 2019, following my A-Levels and started work with MHA as a Business Services Junior. I am now an Audit Semi-Senior and currently studying my ACA qualification, following the completion of Level 3 & 4 AAT.

Since working with MHA, I have worked on a variety of audits, from charities and academies, to pension schemes and corporates. My managers continually let me challenge myself, and this is something which I enjoy, and like most about my role.

I have been responsible for leading audits over the past year, which has built on my confidence, and has given me the chance to add value wherever I can. I have been completing work above my level, and due to my willingness to learn, have also acted as a role model for new trainees. The support that I have received from my colleagues throughout my time with MHA, particularly during Covid, has inspired me to offer as much help and support to new trainees as I can.

My next goals are to finish my ACA studies and qualify as a chartered accountant in the next 18 months. I am hoping to gain as much practical experience as possible during this time, continuing to work with a variety of clients. I would like to continue to offer support and guidance to any new trainees, helping them to have the best possible start with MHA. I am hoping to gradually increase my responsibilities as I learn and my knowledge builds.

In 5 years time, I would like to have had more responsibilities given to me, such as leading larger and more complex audits, and being even more directly involved with clients. My goal is ultimately to progress within the firm, and in this timeframe, I hope to have been able to take up some opportunities that may have arisen. I would like to have an active role in assisting any trainees in this time with questions they have, using the knowledge and experience that I have gained training with MHA. I would like them to feel as welcomed as I did when starting with MHA.”

MHA is also a finalist for two other awards, including Commitment to People, and Chloe Heard is also competing for Apprentice of the Year. Best wishes to Chloe and Kai for the night.
