The FCA and the PRA; current thinking on governance and regulation: A second breakfast workshop for Independent Non-Executive Directors

MHA is holding the second dedicated breakfast workshop for independent NEDs working across the financial services sector. Under Chatham House rules, there will be thought-provoking and stimulating conversation as we delve into the key issues shaping UK banks post-election and into 2025.

The workshop will be chaired by Sundeep Bhandari, an experienced Board Risk Chairman, INED and Business Head and former Head of Global Audit and Risk functions with in-depth experience across all three lines of defence.

Whilst there will be no formal agenda, we anticipate that the following matters will be discussed amongst others and we are also keen to include further suggestions:

  1. Solvent Exit Planning: A review of the critical considerations for ensuring a smooth and successful exit, safeguarding a bank's legacy.
  2. PRA Categorisation: Understanding how the Prudential Regulation Authority categorises banks and the implications for an institution's regulatory requirements.
  3. Balancing Deposits and Lending: Gaining insights from the PRA on best practices for managing deposit-taking and lending activities to minimise liquidity risk.
  4. High-Interest, Short-Term Deposits: Exploring the risks associated with attracting substantial short-term deposits at elevated interest rates in the context of PRA regulations.
  5. Overseas Parented Banks: Considerations and challenges faced by banks with overseas parent companies operating in the UK.
  6. IFRS 18 Impact: The potential impact of IFRS 18 on revenue recognition, contract costing and financial reporting.
  7. S166 Reviews: The latest developments in s166 reviews and their significance for ensuring compliance and risk management.
  8. BASEL 3.1: Examining the implications of BASEL 3.1 on capital requirements and risk management frameworks.

The workshop is an opportunity to engage in insightful discussions as well as share experiences, insights and challenges with fellow INEDs in a confidential and collaborative setting. Participants will also have the opportunity to build valuable connections and network with a diverse group of peers.

RSVP by the 27th of September; there are a limited number of places available due to the workshop format, however, we will consider holding a further workshop in November for those who cannot attend, or we are oversubscribed.
