Customs Essentials: A Beginner’s Guide to Importing and Exporting

In person • multiple dates and start times from September 2024

Event location: across the UK

We are holding a series of informative 2 and a half hour CPD sessions delving into the world of importing and exporting. Tailored for those with limited knowledge or experience of logistics and customs processes, these sessions aim to familiarise participants with common terminology and compliance obligations.

As you will know, post Brexit any UK business importing goods into the UK needs to be compliant with Customs processes and legal requirements. Failure to do so can result in a higher risk profile with HMRC as Customs law requires a person to be responsible for all Customs entries made by the business.

Our sessions are aimed at supporting your understanding of your compliance obligations and remaining compliant. HMRC expects businesses to have the knowledge and experience to manage their Customs obligations. Our CPD programme demonstrates a commitment to maintaining the knowledge required to be a “low risk” trader.

What to expect

The sessions offer an overview of the most common areas of customs, including tariff classification, customs valuation, Incoterms®, and import and export customs declarations. Get acquainted with basic processes and obligations placed on importers and exporters, along with the associated terms used within the customs arena.

As HMRC approved trainers, MHA offers an ongoing ‘Coping with Customs’ CPD training series, this session lays the groundwork for deeper dives into technical customs topics in the future.
