Purpose of the role

  • Provide high level tax consultancy/advice to clients and the firm
  • To maximise profitability of existing and potential client work
  • Develop tax function in Colchester
  • Generate own fees by working legal and banking contacts or direct leads
  • Develop private client offering/trust work
  • Develop a leading/mentor role with the tax managers
  • Manage office tax function

Main Responsibilities

Client Management

  • Oversee tax compliance work on own tax clients
  • Provide technical support and solutions to staff/other departments/other Partners
  • Answer any ad-hoc questions that are asked during the year.
  • Be proactive with any new initiatives that are relevant to the client

Practice Development

  • Identify new business opportunities for tax consultancy or compliance work
  • Agree new client target for the year and be responsible for achieving target
  • Ensure individual marketing targets are met
  • Follow up potential client leads
  • Establishing local business contacts/networking and attend functions
  • Develop contacts outside of existing database
  • Propose for any new work, including fee quotations
  • Run or assist with presentations to clients, contacts and prospects

Staff Management

  • Undertake appraisals for direct reports and provide feedback for other staff appraisals
  • Ensure team is working effectively
  • Recommend team changes etc as required

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified Chartered or Certified Accountants or member of Institute of Taxation (or similar)
  • Up to date in CPE & recent developments in accounting standards
  • People management, ability to delegate, motivate, provide feedback and stretch performance
  • Commercial awareness and customer focus
  • Communication, oral and written, ability to communicate at all levels, good listening skills
