John started his career in a small firm in the Scottish Borders after graduating from Edinburgh Napier University in 2016 in Accounting with Law. He gained experience with local owner managed businesses across a wide portfolio of clients, including construction, retail and hospitality. He provided a full service package across several service lines.
John qualified as a Chartered Accountant with ICAS in 2020, and later joined an independent Edinburgh firm in 2022 as a client manager, with the firm merging with MHA in 2024. He continues to work with owner managed businesses across a variety of sectors in the provision of accounting, advisory and VAT services. He remains particularly active in client training and support to help obtain efficiency improvements, and aims to support clients interpreting their accounts and other compliance requirements. He aims to do so with as little jargon as possible to provide a quality, friendly service with a lasting and trusting relationship.
In John’s spare time, he is a volunteer treasurer and athletics coach for children for a local charity. He also sits as a member of the owner managed businesses taxes committee at ICAS, where the committee comments on and responds to consultations on future tax legislation.
