Jimmy Davies

Director – VAT & Indirect Taxes, CTA

Jimmy is a VAT & Indirect Taxes Director based in the North-West. His role involves advising clients on various aspects of VAT where they require additional support, including transactions, complex areas of legislation, compliance, and any other day-to-day or one-off matters.

Jimmy is a Chartered Tax Advisor with nearly 10 years of VAT experience, having worked in practice since 2018. He has a broad range of VAT advisory experience, having worked across numerous sectors, including small and medium enterprises, charities and the third sector, as well as large and listed businesses. He has advised clients and provided practical solutions on various complex matters, including the sale of businesses, VAT liability issues, business and non-business income, Partial Exemption Special Methods, and other sector-specific arrangements such as the VAT shelter scheme in the housing sector. Jimmy has also worked extensively on post-Brexit matters, assisting businesses both within and outside the UK to comply with the new complexities arising from the UK’s status outside the EU.

Prior to this, Jimmy worked at HMRC as part of the Fraud Investigation Service, tackling complex supply chain frauds, including Labour Market and Missing Trader fraud. This experience helped him develop an in-depth working knowledge of penalties for VAT non-compliance and the approach taken by HMRC officers.

Joining MHA was an easy decision for Jimmy, as it is clear that MHA is a firm that is growing, has a major national presence, and is a real challenger in the market, while also benefiting from being part of a major global network. He looks forward to working with his colleagues to deliver excellent and cohesive client service.

Jimmy and his wife have a young daughter, and they love to get out and explore as a family, going on all sorts of different adventures together. Jimmy is also a passionate cricketer, playing in the local league, and he follows many other sports, including football, where he is a regular attendee at Anfield.
