Andrew Thurston

Customs Duty & Indirect Tax Consultant, BTEC Level 3 Advanced Award for Security Management Systems for the Supply Chain and BTEC Advanced Diploma in International Trade Assurance

Andrew has over 20 years’ experience within HMRC’s Excise and International Trade departments. 

Andrew assists UK and EU clients to optimize their supply chains from a customs perspective. As part of the Indirect Tax team, he regularly liaises with VAT colleagues to ensure all indirect tax aspects are considered.

He uses his prior experience within HMRC to efficiently review and advise on customs processes, which has benefited many clients who are now able to manage their customs obligations, both in the UK and the EU. This, along with the detailed advice he provides to clients ensure that companies can improve their tax compliance. 

Due to Brexit, Andrew was instrumental in designing and providing MHA's 'Coping with Customs' training to many clients who were subjected to customs processes.

Alongside this work, Andrew assists clients with classification of their goods, navigating the rules of origin and advising on customs authorisations such as Inward Processing and Temporary Admission. The sectors in which Andrew’s clients operate vary from retail, pharmaceuticals to aerospace. 

Andrew has strong links within Baker Tilly and regularly assists EU colleagues whose clients require customs assistance. He has assisted EU clients with obtaining EU Customs Authorisations such as Outward Processing.
